Type of Work Undertaken

John brings his strong inter-personal skills, empathetic nature, helpful manner and effective approach to the wide spectrum of cases he deals with. These include divorce and separation both in relation to married couples, civil partners and cohabitants. John’s particular specialism is resolving the financial issues which surround a relationship breakdown. He has a great deal of experience in dealing with a wide variety of cases including those involving family businesses or other business interests, pensions and trusts. He is also able to provide information on tax issues. John is happy to deal with cases where the assets are modest in nature as well as those which concern multi-million pound assets and complex issues.

He also advises on and prepares pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.

John has considerable experience in dealing with children cases involving disputes relating to residence, contact, specific issues such as schooling or change of name and financial provision for children.

Supporting My Clients

John says: -

“Providing my clients with the type of service that they expect is very important to me. Clients need to easily obtain bespoke, face-to-face, quality advice, from a fully qualified and experienced solicitor at a point of desperation and crisis in their lives. They deserve more than a perfunctory and ‘processed’ service provided probably at some distance away from their home, by a non qualified and inexperienced advisor, vaguely supervised somewhere behind the scenes.”

“I always actively listen to what my clients want. No two sets of circumstances are the same, and no two families are the same. I always look at the wider picture, provide ideas as to how best to resolve issues and try to minimise the conflict. My aim, where this is possible, is to negotiate an amicable settlement while ensuring that this is the most favourable outcome for my client and one which is fair to the family as a whole. I always keep the client’s objectives at the forefront of my mind.”

“I understand that everybody’s situation is different. What is right for one client is not right for another. I adapt my approach and advice to the individual circumstances and wishes of my client. My approach is client focussed, whether that is advising alongside mediation, collaborative law, solicitor led negotiations or litigation when a marriage sadly comes to an end. In whatever way the client wants the case to be dealt with, my approach is always to work with clients to try and find a solution to the issues they face.”

“Although I will always fight my client’s corner vigorously, I believe passionately that the best outcome for couples going through the emotional and financial stress of a divorce is one that is agreed between them. Sometimes this is impossible and the court has to decide, but most of my cases settle and what drives me is being able to help my client come through the process of family breakdown confident about their future and being financially secure. Most importantly, where they are parents, that they continue to have a good relationship with their children.”

“I have kept the drive that drew me to family law in the first place - a wish to do the very best possible work that I can for people that face a very difficult period of their lives. I find nothing more rewarding than building a relationship of trust and confidence with a new client and working with that person to find a way through the turmoil of family breakdown.”
